Money for Our Movements: did we miss something?

The program committee for Money for Our Movements: A Social Justice Fundraising Conference could use your advice

What workshop topics do you want to see at the conference this year?

Here are some topics from our ’08 conference that we thought it made sense to have again. Please let us know if you really want to see a topic that we didn’t list; if you convince us that it’s worth it, no promises, but we’ll do our best to land a fantastic presenter to cover that topic (that presenter might be you!).

Please weigh in: Post a comment to this blog or email manish[at]grassrootsfundraising.org.

And if you didn’t already, submit your own proposal now; they’re due on May 11th!

I would like to see a workshop on grassroots funding events that reinforce mission and can be produced on a shoestring…could that be possible? Event promotion planning, etc. should be included.

Thanks Katherine! More and more grassroots groups are scaling back their special events (or replacing them with other fundraising activities). “Special events on a shoestring” sounds like an interesting topic. I’m sending your idea to our program committee.

I would like to see a session on endowments. When do they make sense for movement organizations? What are the arguments for and against in light of the volatile investment situation? How can small organizations set them up?

Thanks Dick! I cringe when I think of social justice groups diving into the mess of endowments. But some GIFTers disagree with me, and that’s fine 😉

We’ll see if the program committee is interested in this as a workshop topic. If you have ideas for a workshop presenter on this topic, please email me and let us know!

The only person I know who has done this well is Kim. it was a few years back, but she might have some thoughts on the topic or more current names.
We are trying it. But what sounded like a brilliant strategy for sustainability at our 15th Anniversary in March of 2008, turned into “Can you explain again why we should put money into an account that will disappear?” by October.
