The Grassroots Fundraising Journal provides practical information to help nonprofit organizations, particularly those working on social justice issues, raise money. We welcome article submissions.
We prefer content that gives practical, how-to advice based on the writer's experience.
You may submit an article on any topic related to fundraising or development that you think would be useful to small- to medium-sized nonprofits. We are always interested in articles about any unusual and successful use of a fundraising strategy, including low-budget mail campaigns, personal solicitation, and getting board members and volunteers involved in fundraising. We are also interested in reviews of software and application service providers relating to fundraising and development.
If you have an idea for an article, but have not yet written it, please contact Associate Publisher Jennifer Emiko Boyden with your topic and an outline of your article. She will let you know if we are interested in the topic, give you feedback on your outline, and draw up a contract between you and the Grassroots Fundraising Journal if we decide to use your article.
You may also submit a completed article for consideration. If the article has already been published elsewhere, please let us know. We will contact you about acceptance and a contract.
Feature articles are usually 2,000 to 3,500 words in length and are subject to editing by the Journal. Please include a one-sentence author bio.
Shorter articles, including book reviews and technology reviews, of 1,000 to 1,500 words, will also be considered.
We will acknowledge receipt of your submission (or inquiry about a topic you'd like to write about) within two weeks of receiving it. Please feel free to contact us again if you haven't heard from us.
It can take up to several months for us to make a final decision about publication, so we ask for your patience.
If your article is accepted for publication, you will receive three copies of the issue in which the article is published and a writer's fee of $100.
You retain the copyright to your article and may sell it to other publications. Rights you license to the Journal include the right to publish the article on our website, sell the article as a PDF download, and grant permission to reprint on a case-by-case basis.
Thank you for your interest in writing for the Grassroots Fundraising Journal.
