The Resource Development Unit announces a full-time position for a development associate to qualified applicants. 

Position Summary:  Maryland Legal Aid has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Development Associate to join a growing development office, with the potential for advance­ment. The Development Associate will provide administrative support to the Development Office for all fundraising activities, with primary responsibility for donor communications, gift processing and acknowledgement, donor research and database management. The Associate will also be responsible for coordinating direct mail solicitations, managing online donations, assisting with special events and the Major Gifts Program, as well as additional support for the development program as needed. The ideal candidate will be an excellent writer who is detail-oriented and tech-savvy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in drafting and coordinating direct mail solicitation appeals
  • Draft gift acknowledgment letters and manage other correspondence with donors
  • Manage donor database, including gift entry, updates of donor information, preparation and analysis of donor reports, entry of donor prospects
  • Manage website donations, online giving campaigns
  • Assist in research, submission of grant proposals; grants management following awards
  • Conduct research on prospective corporate, foundation and individual donors and make recommendations to senior staff
  • Coordinate and execute United Way Campaign outreach
  • Assist in coordinating the planning and execution of donor cultivation events


  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • One to two years’ experience in not-for-profit development preferred
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, database management experience
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
