This is the web site for the Grassroots Institute for Fundraising Training (“GIFT”). GIFT has created this privacy policy to demonstrate our commitment to maintaining the privacy of our users in the internet environment. The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for this web site. The type and amount of information received depends on how you use the site. GIFT reserves the right to make changes to the Privacy Policy at any time at GIFT’s sole discretion without any prior notice.

GIFT also reserves the right to modify the information contained on this site at any time without notice. This site and all information and materials on it are provided to you “as is” without warranty of any kind. Each user consents to the collection and use of all information that the user provides to GIFT.

Normal Web Site Usage

You can visit most portions of GIFT’s web site without telling us who you are and without revealing any personal information. The only information we collect from a normal web site visit is the numerical Internet protocol (IP) address of the computer you are using, the browser software you use and your operating system, the date and time you access our site, the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site, and any search terms used to find our site.

We use this information to generate statistics and measure site activity to improve the usefulness of the site to our visitors. We collect this information on an aggregate basis only. This information is used for internal review only and not shared with third parties, other than the service that generates the statistics.

We do not collect any other information without the visitor’s knowledge and permission. During a normal web site visit, we do not collect or store personally identifiable information such as name, mailing address, email address, phone number or social security of the visitor.

Collection of Personally Identifiable Information

There are instances where GIFT requests personally identifiable information to provide you with services or correspondence (such as subscriptions to our e-newsletter and/or to our magazine, the Grassroots Fundraising Journal). This information, such as name, mailing address, email address, type of request and possibly additional information, is collected and stored in a manner appropriate to the nature of the data by GIFT and is used to fulfill your request. GIFT collects credit card information for billing purposes.  We do not use or share credit card information for any other purposes.

GIFT makes every effort to insure the secure collection and transmission of sensitive user information. We do this using industry accepted data collection and encryption methodologies such as SSL (Secure Sockets Layer; look for the “locked” icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and/or for “https” at the beginning of the address of the web page).

Circumstances in which GIFT may sell, rent, or exchange limited personally identifiable information (such as name and mailing address) with partner organizations include when persons purchase products from us (such as a subscription to our magazine, the Grassroots Fundraising Journal). Procedures for opting out are listed below. At this time, GIFT does not sell, rent or exchange e-mail addresses to partners. GIFT, likewise, does not disclose any financial information to partners, except where required, as is by our third-party donation processor Groundspring.org, in order for them to process online donations.

If we are required by law to disclose any information that you have submitted, we will attempt to provide you with notice (unless we are prohibited) that a request for your information has been made in order to give you an opportunity to object to the disclosure. We will attempt to provide this notice by email, if you have given us an email address, or by postal mail if you have entered a postal address. We will independently object to overly broad requests for access to information about users of our site. If you do not challenge the disclosure request, we may be legally required to turn over your information.

Some of the functions of our site (for example, sections for the exclusive use of our internship program participants) require registration or personal information (like name, email address and/or a password issued by GIFT). We use this information to track the usage of these features and to ensure only authorized users access these sections of our site.

Our site uses web forms for users to purchase products and services, or to make donations (in the latter case, through a link to our third-party donation processor, Groundspring.org). We collect visitors’ contact information (like their email address) and information on the referring Web site, if applicable. Contact information from the web form is used to send orders and information about our organization to our users. The user’s contact information is also used to get in touch with you when necessary. Users may opt out of receiving future mailings.

Opting Out

Persons who donate to GIFT, whether via regular postal mail, over the phone or through the Web site, will receive periodic updates from GIFT. You may request limited mail updates or request no phone calls by contacting GIFT (please see below for contact information). Further, we may occasionally exchange or rent the names and postal addresses of our customers with other organizations in exchange for access to their customer lists, so that we can invite others to subscribe to the Grassroots Fundraising Journal. If you prefer to opt out of having your name/address exchanged in this manner, please contact us. If you subscribe to our e-newsletter, you can unsubscribe easily by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the e-newsletter email.

You can reach us by sending an e-mail to info@grassrootsfundraising.org, by phone at 1-510-452-4520 (M-F, 9am-5pm PST) or by writing to:

Security

This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. However, your confidential use of this site cannot be guaranteed by GIFT. Cookie Usage

GIFT uses cookies to facilitate authentication and personalization across our web systems. A cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to your Web browser from a Web server and stored on your computer’s hard drive. GIFT uses only anonymous information (such as IP address) to track how our online visitors use our website. This data is sometimes stored using cookies. Cookies help, for example, when you find a product you’d like to buy, place it in the “cart” in our web store, and go back to other parts of the site to find other things to purchase.  Cookies are an industry standard and used by most major web sites in a similar manner.

Outside Links

This site contains hypertext links to other sites. We also use a third-party service provider (MIVA) for our web store, and a third-party service provider (Groundspring.org) to process our online donations. They collect information about your interaction with our site and services (when you make an online donation or purchase from us). GIFT is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web sites.
